Today we had our first real class on Paul's 2nd missionary journey and the Macedonian call. We also had our first class on learning greek. We learned the Greek alphabet and we started translating words. I can even say some things in Greek now!! After lunch we headed to Athens to tour the Aveopolis. We saw the parthenon, the pantheon, and the temple of Nike. Most of the temples are under preservation construction to replace all the iron from the last restoration to titanium, a less corrosive metal. From atop the acropolis we could see the plummy stadium, which is getting ready rof the special olympics, we also saw the remains of the temple of Zeus and we saw a coulle of the old theaters and musics halls, one of which is still in use. Then we headed to the new acropolis museum which has all the artifacts and statues that we up on the acropolis. The museum only has 45% of the original status, the rest are in a museum in london from when the acropolis was looted during one of the wars. The museum has glass floors so that you can see the ruins of old homes from the Byzantine empire, the roman empire, the 5th century BC and others the deeper you go. Everything that London has they sent copies of the the museum here and anything that was destroyed can't be copied. Over time there have been 5 different parthenon's because they have been destroyed over the years. We learned about some of the Greek gods and the history of the city of Athens, like the competition between posidon and Athena.Zeus stuck the front of one of the tempes and sea water flowed from it and Athena stuck the ground with her spear and the first olive tree grew. Since her gift was considered better she was crowned gardion of the city and it was named after her. After that we cli
Ned Mats Hill and heard paul's speech to the Athenians in konnie Greek, sang there is a God and then had a devo on top after talking about the temple of the unknown God. Then we awoken to the Plaka, or market place, for dinner and checking out the shops. I had a gyro for dinner, which was excellent! After a few hours there we came back to campus. Most of us went down the street and got ice cream and now I'm layin here with some others watching Tangled on the big screen!
Sounds like a busy day. Keep the news coming. It's great!
